2001 Buick LeSabre Question: replace thermostat

We were told by a mechanic that we had a small leak "(probably haven't hit the ground yet") in the thermostat housing. We have been seeing small amounts of dark (like oil or transmission oil spots every so often where the passenger side of car is parked.
Would a leak from thermostat housing be a dark color. He said it would cost $100 to seal.
Was my repair estimate reasonable? to replace intake manifold and three gaskets?
