2001 Ford Taurus Question: Replace GEM Model to add keyless entry?

stanwb01, 3.0L V6, Fort Wayne, IN, June 29, 2010, 19:54

Hi! I have a 2001 Taurus LX, on which remote keyless entry was not standard equipment. I would like to add it and I have been told that I can swap out the GEM from the same model year that had keyless, and then I will be able to program remotes. Firstly, is there any truth in this? Secondly, where/what is the GEM module? Thirdly, what steps would be needed to accomplish this? Thanks!
