Fuel tank removal is necessary to replace the fuel pump.

my 2003 venture fuel gauge stopped working it reads fuel when its not and sometimes goes to empty how can i fix this and what do i need?
Where could it be? He just changed the fuel pump. Does this have anything to do with?
Our Venture's fuel gage is intermintly working, sometimes it shows the level and sometimes nothing at all. Could it be the fuel pump or the gage or something else.
