Original Recall from the NHTSA

Manufacturer's Report Date: May 18, 1992

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 92V061000

NHTSA Action Number: N/A

Component: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Potential Number of Units Affected: 854

Summary: THE REAR ENGINE COMPARTMENT COVER NEAR THE CRUISE CONTROL SERVO MOTOR SLIPS, CAUSING THE SAFETY CLIP IN THE SERVO MOTOR ARM TO BIND DUE TO INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE. IF THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE BINDS, THE ENGINE DOES NOT RETURN TO IDLE WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL FUNCTION IS DISENGAGED, RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE SPEED NOT BEING REDUCED AS EXPECTED.

Consequence: WHEN THE VEHICLE SPEED IS NOT REDUCED WHEN THE CRUISECONTROL IS DISENGAGED, STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASES WHICH CAN RESULT IN A VEHICLEACCIDENT.

Remedy: INSTALL A BOLT AND WASHER ON THE REAR ENGINE COMPARTMENT COVER TO PREVENT SLIPPING AND TO INSURE THE NECESSARY CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE SAFETY CLIP AND THE COVER.

Notes: SYSTEM: CRUISE CONTROL.VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER CARS.NOTE: PORSCHE CARS N.A. INC. ADVISES NOT TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM UNTILTHE CORRECTIVE ACTION IS ACCOMPLISHED.
