Ford has recalled certain 1990 Taurus models with the police package installed. These vehicles have 14x5.5-inch steel wheels that could crack, causing a potential for the wheel rim to separate from the center. Dealers will replace affected wheels with a revised design.

Summary: WHEELS MAY CONTAIN CRACKS THAT COULD PROPAGATE IN RAISED PORTION OF WHEEL CENTER.

Consequence: UNDER SEVERE DUTY, THIS COULD RESULT IN EVENTUAL SEPARATION OF WHEEL RIM FROM CENTER WITH LOSS OF CONTROL AND POSSIBLY A COLLISION.

Remedy: REPLACE WHEELS WITH WHEELS OF A REVISED DESIGN.
