RepairPal Expert Overview
On vehicles equipped with an engine block heater, the heater power cord may become damaged in cold temperatures, resulting in risk of electrical shock and personal injury.
Recalls on your Buick or Chevrolet must be performed by a General Motors dealership. General Motors began notifying owners of affected vehicles in 2014. If you did not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local General Motors dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
In cold temperatures, the insulation on the engine block heater cord can become damaged, allowing the wires to be exposed. Exposed wires increase the risk of electrical shock and personal injury if the cord is handled while it is plugged in. Dealers will replace the block heater cord with one rated for lower temperatures free of charge to correct this concern.
