RepairPal Expert Overview
When the spare wheel is installed on certain Tacoma vehicles (979 are being recalled) it may become loose because the lug nuts are incorrect.
Southeast Toyota Distributors will notify owners beginning November 2013. If you don't receive notification and you feel you should, please contact your dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call.
Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain vehicles equipped with 18" Maverick Alloy Wheels. The spare wheel requires a different style of lug nut to attach it to the vehicle. These lug nuts were not supplied when the vehicle was first sold. Use of the incorrect lug nuts when mounting the spare wheel can cause it to loosen over time, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will perform the following remedy for this concern: Install a Warning Label on the spare tire/wheel, supply a bag containing proper spare wheel lug nuts, place an Owner's Manual Addendum in the vehicle's glove box.
