RepairPal Expert Overview
The drive shaft may break while driving. If this were to occur, the vehicle could no longer move under its own power. Additionally, the impact at the transfer case if the drive shaft were to break could cause the airbags to deploy.
Chrysler will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles during May 2013. If you notice any abnormal noise from or vibration from under the vehicle, or if you don't receive recall notification after the notification date, please contact your dealer. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Chrysler recall number is N10.
The 4 wheel drive transfer case is protected from the hot exhaust system by a heat shield. This shield can come loose and rub on the drive shaft. Over time, this rubbing could weaken and potentially cause the drive shaft to break, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will add a support bracket to the heat shield to correct this concern.
