Shifter May Be Moved Out of Park Without Pressing the Brake Pedal
Drive Train, December 5, 2011
RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
Certain vehicles may have a brake/shift interlock problem that allows the transmission to be shifted out of park without pressing the brake pedal.
What Should You Do?
Ford will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning December 19, 2011. If you are experiencing problems with the transmission shift interlock, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.
The brake/shift interlock can fail, allowing the transmission to be shifted into park without depressing the brake pedal. If the transmission were shifted into gear without depressing the brake pedal, a crash or injury to a nearby pedestrian could result. Dealers will inspect the brake shift interlock switch function and replace the switch if necessary.
