RepairPal Expert Overview
Wires in the steering wheel could be damaged, causing the driver's air bag to deploy without warning. Injury or loss of vehicle control may occur if the air bag deploys unexpectedly.
In early April 2011, this recall has been expanded to include more F-150 models in the 2005-2006 year range of the original recall. Some 2004 F-150 and 2006 Lincoln Mark LT vehicles have also been added. The recall of the additional models is scheduled to begin by May 9, 2011.
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall; the driver's air bag may deploy without warning. Please contact your Ford dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
The clock spring jumper wire behind the driver's air bag may come into contact with the lower horn plate, resulting in damage to the wiring. If this occurs, the air bag warning light may illuminate or the driver's air bag could deploy unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury or a loss of vehicle control. Dealers will replace the jumper wire with a new design, which includes a protective mesh cover. This recall is expected to begin on February 28, 2011.
