Airbag Warning Light May Illuminate
Body, Interior & Misc., April 19, 2010
RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
The airbag warning light may illuminate due to water intrusion into a front crash sensor. The airbag system may not deploy as designed when the airbag warning light is on, increasing the risk of personal injury in the event of a crash.
What Should You Do?
This could be considered a medium priority recall; this would change to high if airbag warning light is illuminated. Please contact your Chrysler dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
Under certain environmental conditions, a front crash sensor for the airbag system may crack, allowing water intrusion. This can cause the sensor to fail and illuminate the airbag warning light. The airbag system may not deploy as designed when the airbag warning light is on, increasing the risk of personal injury in the event of a crash. Dealers will replace the affected sensors with ones of a new design. This recall is expected to begin during June 2010. The Chrysler recall number is J38.
