RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
The temperature of the transmission fluid is an important statistic that the engine's processor learns. However, the vehicle was never programmed to advise the driver of a transmission fluid overheating condition. This information would be useful to know, since boiling transmission fluid could contact a hot engine or exhaust component and catch fire.
What Should You Do?
We at RepairPal have designated this a medium priority recall; this would change to high if any transmission fluid leaks or burning smells become apparent. Please contact your Jeep dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
The transmission fluid could overheat and boil over without warning. A transmission temperature warning will be added to the message center display as the term "HOT OIL." A warning chime will also be added. The Chrysler recall number is J30. This recall began on February 22, 2010.
