RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
The shifter of the vehicle has a mechanism called the interlock system that keeps the key from being able to be removed unless the shifter is in park. There is a cable that links the key lock and the floor shifter. This cable was improperly manufactured on some vehicles, which allows the key to be removed regardless of shifter position.
What Should You Do?
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall; if the vehicle is not in park when the key is removed, the vehicle may roll out of control without warning. Please contact your Mitsubishi dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
