The Power Liftgate May Fall
Body, Interior & Misc., March 15, 2006
RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
The power liftgate may fall unexpectedly when the liftgate motor disengages. If the liftgate falls freely, anyone standing under it may be injured.
What Should You Do?
Please contact your Ford dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
The power liftgate motor disengages automatically after the liftgate is powered open, and the liftgate may fall unexpectedly if the liftgate strut fails. If the liftgate falls freely, anyone standing under it may be injured. Dealers will reprogram the power liftgate module to reduce the chances of the liftgate free falling. The recall began March 15, 2006. The Ford recall number is 06S42.
