Question: reasonable cost of replacing thermostat?

 Rookie

mileage of car : 68,000. engine light on because of thermostat...does it need to be replaced or can one safely postpone this repair?

    What are the symptoms? Did a shop diagnose it? Personal opinion - - yes t-stat should last longer, but it is a mechanical device made by humans , subject to failure,. It won't fix itself , so as long as that actually is the problem , then , yes I would recommend replacing it.
