My mechanic said that I need to replace the rear seal and that the oil pan needs replacing. I have notice large spots on my driveway where I park. He said it would cost around $1,000.00 to repair both.

MasterYes, that is in the ball park, because you have to remove the trans to replace the rear main seal, so that is about 5 hours, and then the oil pan means you have to remove lots of under carriage components and jack up the motor from its mounts, another 4 hours, so yes, $1000 is about right. I used to be a Journeyman GM Tech.
