The rear brakes are shoe and not disc. The center hub pilot around the shoes seems to be smaller than the front of the hub ,what am I missing here?

I would go to www.alldatadiy.com and get a subscription for your Honda. If the shoes are very worn, they can wear a lip on the surface of the drum, so you will have to loosen the shoe adjustment in order to clear the lip of the drum over the shoes. You do NOT have to touch the inner hub or its dust cap and bolt to do rear brake work on this car, the rear drums will slip off, however they may be rusted so some penetrating oil may be needed so it can slip free of the center hub.
