I have a 1994 Continental, had this same problem, it is the piston and on most cars a c-clamp will push it in, but on my car it required a "special caliper piston tool" that twists the piston in to gain enough room to install new pads. I was able to borrow it from an auto parts store with a refundable deposit, probably the same deal on your car:)
