rattling coming from engine with small leak on 2006 Ford Taurus

I have a 2006 for taurus with a transverse mounted V6. I have been getting a mettallic rattling from the area around the serpentine belt, with some fluid leaking/dripping from the area near the lower pulley. It's been whipping off the pulley system and onto the firewall, frame and the exhaust pipes, burning with a sweet smell with no smoke. I did a 'color test' but dabbing some onto a white paper towel and then 'sampling' the car's fluids but I cant tell what it is by sight or smell. (I dont wanna do a taste test!) I'm looking for some suggestions as what to do - this car has 80k miles on it, and I drive 70 miles a day round trip to go to school so I can't have too much down time on it. I'm ok working on it as long as it's not too in depth - Chilton's is my bible, but they dont have one out for this model yet. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The sweet smell is most likely coolant. You should check for a cooling system leak, possibly from your water pump which would explain why it is being slung on to the firewall.

I have same problem but no leaking. Could it be my AC pulley? Tested the belt tension and the AC pulley seams to be a little loose. What happens if this goes out?
