1994 Volkswagen Jetta Question: radio/lighter/trunk release

Sounds like your lighter socket is shorted, which is not uncommon. First, disconnect the battery and then remove the whole socket and tape off the power and ground leads, then retest your system.

there is a fuse on the back of the radio (5amp or 7.5amp) just for the radio in addition to the other fuse (15 amp?) in the box. was the lighter/radio fuse blown and did you replace it? did the lighter/trunk release start to work? does the new fuse blow? radio lighting is not controled by these fuses.
