The factory stereo display has failed and will need to be repaired. There are many companies that specialize in repairing original factory stereos http://www.carstereohelp.com/strpontiac.htm will give instructions on how to remove the stereo and perhaps then google a original stereo repair facility near you to get an estimate for the repairs, it is a common problem based on your description their estimate will be close.
