Question: Quit running - won't start

While driving, the van quit running, and all the electrical systems shut down. I got the van to the side of the road, turned off the radio, lights, etc. and tried to re-start the van.

The motor turns over but won't start. The radio lost all presets but plays, the turn signals, wipers, and emergency flashers work but the none of the interior or headlights work.

Is this an alternator problem? If it is why don't the lights work off the battery while the radio, emer flashers etc do?

It sounds like part of your electrical system has failed. The system may need to be diagnosed by a qualified technician to determine what has failed.
