My mechanic stated that should I decide to replace the valve stems that it may or may not take care of the smoking problem because of the age of the car. What is your opinion?

Masterdid he mention anything about valve stem seals?the seals keep the oil out of the combustion chamber without having to remove the head.if he were to replace the valves,then the whole head would have to come off and require alot of new gaskets and very costly.ask about valve seals only.

MasterReplacing valve stems will GUARANTEE not fix your blue smoking problem...you need valve stem SEALS replaced instead.
