QualTech Automotive
YES, at this time, I would highly recommend this shop. This was my first repair experience with QualTech.
2001 (2001.5) VW Passat GLS 2.8l V6
Billy the owner and all his people are professional, detailed and physically show you what they are talking about before any detailed work order is written. Their pricing is competitive, and they are known for quality work especially on German cars. QualTech was formerly owned by Kurt and called Kurts Auto Werks. The same quality that was Kurt's applies to Qualtech with allot of the techs still working there.
Before taking my Passat or BMW 330Ci to QualTech, I had called and spoken briefly with the owner, Billy and then emailed him later that day asking Billy ALLOT of detailed business and technician questions about the changeover from Kurt's to QualTech. Billy promptly replied that evening. I emailed him again with detailed technical questions in which he promptly replied in detail the same day. After one more 'test' email with a detailed question and the consequent ~immediate response, I decided QualTech was the place for my German cars if not also our Mazda Protege.
Upon arrival at 4:00PM with my wife in her 330Ci, I was greeted warmly but was in a super hurry to get across town by 5PM. They immediately acknowledged my situation and accepted the keys and told me that they would take a look at what I already knew was failed motor mounts. I arrived back at a few minutes before 6PM, which is their closing time. The technician on my vehicle, manager, and owner stayed, and we reviewed my Passat on the rack and outlined everything that was physically, glaringly apparent in need of repair over the next few months. I committed to the motor mounts replacements: front-center and both L & R rear along with an oil/filter change. Richie the manager and Billy the owner took the extra time to chat with me for quite awhile, which was enlightening and refreshing considering it was already well past closing time.
My Passat was ready for me the next day before noon and the immediate motor mount problem was completely solved! Price was very competitive since I had called allot of German-specializing shops in Austin. QualTech was competitive - not the lowest price but not the highest price.
QualTech shop floor is clean, well-maintained and organized with tools where they should be. My technician, whose name escapes me now, really took some extra time outside the norm to answer other questions that I had regarding vehicles in general and specifically my Passat and my wife's 330Ci. He was very thorough!
I will definitely return to QualTech within the next few weeks to get a few more tentative things repaired on my Passat. My overall initial impression and first experience was excellent and highly recommend QualTech!
I will report back here after my next set of repairs at QualTech.
