The direct ignition cassette can fail causing the engine to die while driving, and/or it will crank but start. The engine may also have a rough idle and run roughly. Diagnosis may discover trouble codes for random misfires.
2.0L engines may become low on engine coolant with no cause found for the coolant loss. Our technicians tell us than in some cases the engine block may require replacement due to porosity.
The air blend system in the heating, ventilation and AC (HVAC) system can have problems, which can cause the AC controls to be stiff, or a lack of HVAC control.
The idler pulley for the serpentine belt can fail causing noise from the belt area. Our technicians report the pulley has been known to fail completely which can cause the belt to break or be thrown off.
The head gasket may leak oil externally. The oil will be visible around the cylinder head and block area.
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) and/or traction control light may illuminate. This can be caused by corrosion in the (ABS) wire harness connector at the right front wheel speed sensor due to water intrusion. Corroded connectors should be cleaned or replaced as necessary to correct this concern.
When trying to close the window, the window glass will drop a few inches after reaching the closed position.This can happen on any window that has the automatic closing feature.
The system that prevents you from being injured by the automatically closing windows is called the "pinch protection system" and this system needs to be reset, reprogrammed or is defective.
In your owners manual you will find instructions on how to reset this feature. If that doesn't work, you'll need a Saab repair shop or Dealership to check for a software update for the pinch protection system, or see if there is a defective part. Have the shop reference the Saab Technical Service Bulletin (TSB #831-2639)to help address this issue.
The thermo contact in the AC compressor can fail, which means the compressor may fail to engage or disengage.
The exhaust flex pipe can fail causing excessive exhaust noise from the front/center area of the vehicle. The flex pipe is a flexible joint in the exhaust that allows for engine movement.
Turbo bearing wore out and caused a complete failure. Had to replace turbo.
Vehicles with a manual transmission may develop a whining noise in third gear (30 to 40 mph). Our technicians tell us this is commonly corrected by replacing a bushing in the shift cable.
