Due to the design of the reverse gear system in the AX-15 manual transmission, it may block shifting into reverse one out of every ten attempts. An updated reverse gear is available if the concern becomes more frequent.
The hood support rod can rattle against the radiator driving over rough roads or when the doors are slammed. Installing a foam ring on the support rod can help to prevent the rattling.
If the fuel gauge is inaccurate or not working, it may because the fuel tank has bowed upward and interfered with, or damaged the sending unit (fuel level sensor). If the fuel tank has bowed, fuel tank replacement will be needed.

A no crank or no start condition may develop due to electronic lockup of the wireless control module (WCM), also referred to as the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM). When this module fails the remote keyless entry system will also not operate. The WCM is commonly replaced to correct this concern.

If the fuel gauge is inaccurate or not working, it may because the fuel tank has bowed upward and interfered with, or damaged the sending unit (fuel level sensor). If the fuel tank has bowed, fuel tank replacement will be needed.

If the clutch is slipping when the clutch disc is 2/3 worn or if the clutch slave cylinder dust boot is torn, there may be insufficient clearance between the clutch slave cylinder and the clutch housing. A 5mm shim is available from Jeep that is installed between the slave cylinder and the clutch housing.

A Check Engine Light may illuminate indicating a "Cylinder #3 Misfire." This normally occurs in hot weather after the vehicle has been driven, parked for ten to twenty minutes, and then restarted. Heat from the exhaust vaporizes fuel inside the #3 fuel injector and causes the misfire. Installing an insulator sleeve normally lowers the temperature enough so the fuel will not vaporize.

Jeep issued an emissions recall in late 2006 to update the powertrain control module (PCM) software on certain 1997 - 1998 vehicles. As part of the recall, the catalytic converter will also be inspected for damage and replaced as necessary. To see if your vehicle is included in the recall you can visit the Jeep website (owners' section) that allows owners to input their VIN number and check the recalls on their vehicle.

The AC evaporator may freeze after extended use of the air conditioner. The output may feel low due to the restricted evaporator. Once the ice buildup melts, the AC operates normally. A revised low pressure cycling switch is available which may fix this concern.

"False" trouble codes may cause erroneous illumination of the Check Engine Light. Updating the PCM software can often correct this concern.

If the power steering pump pulley is not installed in the correct position on the pump shaft, the drive belt may make a chirping noise and sound as though it is coming from another component.

Side bars located near the door opening (on the sunrider soft top) may break or a pivot link may break. There are pivot links and side bars available so a complete soft top assembly may not be needed for the repair.
Internal leaks in the speed sensor or speed sensor gear adapter (speedometer adapter) are common. A revised speed sensor (white in color, old versions are black), used in production since November of 1993, solves the problem. If leaks develop between the sensor and the adapter or between the adapter and the transmission housing (transfer case if 4WD), a revised speedometer adapter is available.
