The crankshaft angle sensor or the camshaft position sensor can fail and cause loss of engine power, an engine that cuts out, and other drivability problems. This will cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate. Certain models have been involved in a recall to replace the camshaft and crankshaft sensors. It is not uncommon one or both of the exhaust manifolds to crack resulting in an exhaust leak. Symptoms will begin as a ticking type noise noted on acceleration when the engine is cold.

The brake light switch may fail to operate the brake lights; a recall was issued.

An abnormal noise may develop from the timing chain area, Our technicians tell us it may be necessary to replace the variable valve timing camshaft shaft sprockets to correct this concern.

The fuel gauge may be slow to register, fail to read full when the gas tank is actually full, or read inaccurately. Our technicians tell us there is a redesigned fuel tank sender unit to remedy this problem.

Owners have reported a number of prematurely worn front wheel bearings. As the bearing fails, a rotational humming or grinding noise may be noted from the front as vehicle speed increases. Replacement of the bearing would be necessary to remedy this condition.

A brake pulsation or steering wheel vibration may be noted when braking, especially at highway speeds. Our technicians tell us that replacing the front brake backing plates, resurfacing or replacing the front brake rotors, and inspecting the front brake pads and caliper hardware and replacing as necessary will generally correct this concern.

Carbon deposits on the throttle body may cause any of the following issues: Idle speed fluctuation, incorrect idle speed, difficulty accelerating way from a stop, and or increased accelerator pedal resistance. Our technicians tell us a revised throttle body and associated parts are available to resolve this issue.

The mass air flow (MAF) sensor may fail, resulting in drivability issues and/or illumination of the Check Engine Light.

Rattling and tapping in the front of the engine on the 2006-2008 M35 is very evident, especially on cold starts. This rattling noise should not be taken lightly as it warns of upcoming timing chain failure.

The cause of the noise is faulty timing chain guide rails and timing chain tensioners that wear out well ahead of schedule. These components are there to keep the timing chain tight and properly positioned. When these parts fail, the timing chain becomes loose, and pieces of the timing chain guides break off, falling into the oil pan.

To remedy the situation, Nissan/Infiniti has made revised guides and tensioners, but replacement can be very costly.

Proper oil change intervals and oil type may help slow or prevent the situation.

The airbag (SRS) light may illuminate with code B1177 and/or B1182, related to the front seat belt pre-tensioners. Our technicians tell us revised front seat belt buckles are available to correct this concern.

The anti-lock brake system (ABS) and/or brake warning light may illuminate, this may or may not be associated with a brake pedal pulsation. If a trouble code C1179 is stored, reprogramming the ABS system may be necessary to correct this concern.
