Known Problems

The front brake rotors can warp and cause a vibration when braking. The rotors will need to be machined or in cases where they are worn to thin, replaced to correct this issue.

The shift control solenoid externally mounted on the automatic transmission (non CVT) can fail and causes a harsh 1-2 shift. Replacing the shift solenoid and flushing the transmission with genuine Honda automatic transmission fluid may eliminate harsh shifting characteristics. A broken internal spring can cause the same issue. If the shift control solenoid does not repair the problem, the transmission will have to be replaced. 

Worn engine mounts can lead to unwanted engine vibrations being transmitted to the body, most commonly with the engine idling and the transmission in reverse. Replacing the worn mount(s) should correct this concern.

The engine valves can prematurely fail. The cylinder head will need to be replaced due to wear in the area where the valves seal. Intake or exhaust valve failure may illuminate the Check Engine Light. The car may have poor engine performance and fail emission tests.

The V6 engine is prone to problems with the exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR valve) which can cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate.

The engine may develop and oil leak due to a porous engine block casting. The repair procedure is dependent on where the leak is located. Honda has released a service bulletin covering model years 1998-2003. Honda may offer assistance with repairs, determined on a case by case basis.

The PCM can misinterpret misfire data and set a false Check Engine (MIL) light requiring a PCM update to repair.

Manual sliding doors will stick or not open easily due to the door seal sealing too well. Sometimes this can cause the door handle to break when trying to open the door. Replacing the door seal with an updated seal from Honda will repair this issue.

On certain models, the rear blower won't work due to a failed power transistor. Replacing the power transistor will fix this problem.

Certain models can misinterpret air fuel sensor data and cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate. A software update from Honda will fix this issue.

A rear engine mount that is broken can cause an engine vibration felt in the vehicle. Replacing the failed mount will repair this problem.

Erratic operation of the transmission, which may or may not be accompanied by illumination of dashboard warning lights, would indicate internal transmission faults. Replacement of the transmission is generally required to correct this issue.

Cracked exhaust is common on both exhaust manifolds and manifold/catalytic converter combination. Replacing the cracked component will repair the problem.
