The engine my develop and buck, surge, or noise due to a worn distributor drive gear. If the distributor shaft has excessive rotational free play the distributor drive gear and bushing should be replaced.

Under light load, at approximately 2000rpm the engine could exhibit surging, bucking, or intermittent misfires. Our technicians tell us this could be caused by a mis-indexed distributor.
An intermittent fault with the electrical connection at the crankshaft position sensor may result in poor engine performance and/or a no start condition.
Erratic idle conditions which can include engine stalling may occur in warm to hot weather. Our technicians tell us that a new idle air control valve is available to correct these concerns.
The engine may develop a lack of power or stalling condition due to low fuel pressure. Our technicians tell us that this can be due to contaminates passing through the fuel pick-up screen resulting in fuel pump failure. If fuel pump failure occurs it is recommend to replace the entire fuel pump module as it includes both the primary and secondary fuel pump filters.
The engine may develop an intermittent stalling or no start condition. Our technicians tell us a common repair to correct this condition is to replace the distributor pick-up plate.
Engines using a throttle body fuel injection system may develop a fuel leak from the fuel injector nozzle or the injector o-ring seal can cause any of the following: Hard starting, rough idle, black exhaust smoke, and poor fuel mileage.
The engine may exhibit excessively high oil pressure at cold start up. This may lead to distortion of the oil filter case. Inspect the oil filter case for any signs of distortion. If the case is distorted, Connect an oil pressure gauge to the engine and start the engine while observing the readings. If the pressure reads above 80 psi, replace the oil pump.
A delayed transmission upshift may be noted in cold weather (32 degrees F and below). Our technicians tell us that cast iron sealing rings for the hydraulic governor are available to replace the original teflon rings to address this concern.
Excessive play cause by a bent anti-rotation bracket can cause difficulty shifting the transmission. Our technicians tell us that replacing the shift lever tower assembly may be necessary to correct this concern.
The manual transmission may become stuck in or blocked out of reverse or 5th gear. Our technicians tell us the repair involves replacing the transmission overdrive rail, lug shift fork, and synchronizer assembly with revised parts.
The transmission may exhibit a delayed engagement after the vehicle has been parked for an extended period. This condition can be caused by transmission fluid draining back into the transmission from the torque converter. There is a drainback relief valve available which should be installed in the transmission oil cooler pressure line to correct this issue.
Pinched or restricted transmission oil cooler lines can cause automatic transmission failure due to lack of lubrication. Our technicians recommend complete inspection of the transmission cooler and lines if this type of failure is noted.
Vehicles equipped with 12" diameter rear brakes may encounter premature rear brake shoe wear. Our technicians tell us that if the brake system is functioning as designed the affected brake shoes should be replaced with revised parts.
