Noticed white colored goo on oil dipstick during oil addition. Dealer indicated a failed head gasket. Solution is to replace the head gasket. Will also replace the valve cover which the dealer indicates is now a better design than the original cover. Dealer estimate is approx. $1200.

Had to replace due to excess wear. Suburban not driven hard - these failed prematurely. In addition, repair by replacing just ball joints made 3 times more expensive due to GM design. The upper control arms had to be replaced making the parts very expensive and the labor 3 times more than normal.
