An internal distributor fault could cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate, an engine misfire, or a stalling condition. Replacement of the distributor is commonly recommend to correct this concern.

The outer tie rod ends on the steering linkage may wear causing excessive free play in the steering and uneven tire wear. If the worn tie rod ends are replaced, the wheel alignment should be checked and adjusted as necessary.

The intake manifold gasket may develop and external engine oil or coolant leak. In some cases, an internal coolant leak may occur causing coolant to mix with the engine oil. Running the engine with a coolant/oil mix may result in engine damage. Replacing the intake manifold gasket should correct this issue.

The water pump may develop a coolant leak resulting in an engine overheating condition.

 

The steering gear may fail causing a loss of power steering fluid as a result the steering may become hard to turn.

The transmission may develop a harsh 1-2 shift and/or illumination of the Check Engine Light with code P1870 stored. This can be caused by wear of the bore for the TCC isolator and regulator valves in the valve body. This condition does not commonly occur until the transmission reaches normal operating temperature. If the valve body is worn, replacement will be necessary to correct this concern.

The engine control module (ECM) electrical grounds on the front of the engine block may have high resistance causing a rough running engine or stalling condition.

Excessive carbon build up in the engine combustion chambers may be the cause of a smog check failure due to excess NOx emissions. A "top engine" decoarbonization cleaning procedure will commonly correct this concern.

The fuel injectors may short out electrically causing a rough idle.

The AC compressor may develop an abnormal noise or refrigerant leak, requiring replacement.

The auto level ride compressor may fail causing the rear of the vehicle to ride to high or too low.

The alternator may fail causing the battery to go dead or the engine to stall while driving.

An engine vacuum leak may develop from the throttle body gasket causing a higher than normal idle speed. Failed gaskets should be replaced.
