Someone told me that disconnecting your battery will cause a problem with your computer system. He said that there was a special way of changing the battery. Is this true?

    No

After battery replacement, set time and date and worst case if warnings prompt on dash, turn the steering wheel lock to lock and go for a drive afterwards

I had battery replaced on 2001 740iL and immediately after nav computer was nonfunctional. I read that you must not disconnect battery until nav computer has timed out (power LED goes off). Appaently the nav computer stays powered up for a bit after exiting car. Anyway, in my case, replacing battery caused me to have to buy new nav computer. All is fine now. Dave
