2005 Chevrolet Malibu Question: Problem with oil light coming on

 Rookie

the oil light comes on and the temp gauge goes about half way. Checked the oil level and it is fine. What could be the problem?

    the oil level sensor could be causing the problem, is the check engine light on? if it is i would get a diagnostic to see what the trouble codes are.

    Hello , when does the oil light come on?? If it comes on while you are sitting at an idle , chances are good that you need a new oil pressure switch , witch is most likely next to or very close to the oil filter itself in the front of the engine block..

    MY OIL LIGHT COMES ON WHEN I PULL UP TO A STOP SIGN......THEN AS THE RPM'S GO UP THE LIGHT GOES OFF.....2004 INTREPID........

    Usually when oil light comes on at idle and goes off at higher rpm's, the problem is worn main crankshaft bearings, but could also be a weak oil pump.
