Question: power steering problems

 Rookie

An additional question in reference to my power steering problem. Could a weakening alternator have an effect on the operating of the power steering unit.
Car starts fine, however volt sign comes on. Wheels wont turn easily to each side even though i toped off the fluid. Think that the Powersteering unit is not pressurizing possibly. Appreciate any info. thanks much

    Sounds like the power steering pump could be failing and slowing the engine down low enough to illuminate the volt light, need to have a shop look at this because no need to change parts that are still good

    Yes, this sounds like the power steering is failing and I would also advise on going to a shop for this issue.
