Question: Power Steering Pressure hose vs Power Steering Pump

Visitor, 3.7L V6, Katy, TX, February 18, 2011, 19:27
I was told that my power steering hose has a leak and it does,I can see where it is leaking at the connection leading into the pump. The mechanic told me I needed to change the pump and hose for over $500.00 dollars. Why not change the hose first? How can you tell if the pump is bad?

Technicianmac,if you hadn't run it completely dry then you should be o.k. a way to know if your pump is bad fill it up with fluid and if it doesn't whine you should be o.k. if it whines then you burnt it up. or it is hard to steer.
