Popping Noise From Muffler Heat Shield on Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Mechanic heated the shield, bent it so it would not touch and this cured the problem.
Removed catalytic converters several years ago. Around 240000 miles heat shield started rattling. Thinking about just taking it off.
awful vibration noise coming from underneath vehicle toward the rear.
This happened to me as soon as i got the truck, took the shield off, cut and trimmed, and used green lochtite on the bolts, no more noise.
