2004 Volkswagen Touareg Question: piston replacement on hatchback

yoggi, 3.6L V6, Tucson, AZ, January 19, 2011, 17:17

The piston went out on the rear hatchback. In orderto repair the problem the headliner needs to be removed. The cost in total is around $800.00., by the dealership. What would be a reasonable estimate on doing this.

The book time which includes headliner assembly is 6 hours plus parts $160 each retail 2 are needed, So $800 is fair

Thanks for the response. I found a mechanic to fix the(struts , pistons)? he is a mechanic for a dealership and repaired it in less than 2 hours and the cost was $400.00. It seems to be working fine.. I think I just got lucky. Thank you

The VW dealer is correct, they need to remove the headliner, which takes 5 hours of labor, add the price of the parts, and the total will be around $800.
You might be able to save a little by going to a VW specialist, but unfortunately it won't be much.
