If your 1972 Buick Riviera uses EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) as part of it's emission control system, it could be that the EGR is not working correctly causing high combustion temperatures resulting in engine ping. IF equipped, check your EGR system for proper operation.
i dont have a egr system.its a 1972 some came with it and some didnt.i just got off the phone with sumit racing.thay siad sance i have a holley carb i might need a biger power valve to get more gas
