72 buick riviera 455 rebuilded motor.when driving at 20mph and i give gas it starts to ping.i tryed all kinds of gas additives new plugs ajust the timing put a new msd distributor.swaped the springs and bushings that did nothing.i did somthing!because it didnt do this when i first drove my car... can somebody think of anything els i can do? im going insane! thanks george

If your 1972 Buick Riviera uses EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) as part of it's emission control system, it could be that the EGR is not working correctly causing high combustion temperatures resulting in engine ping. IF equipped, check your EGR system for proper operation.

i dont have a egr system.its a 1972 some came with it and some didnt.i just got off the phone with sumit racing.thay siad sance i have a holley carb i might need a biger power valve to get more gas
