1998 Mercury Sable Question: pinging sound coming from the pulley mounted to water pump.

Ryedoc, 3.0L V6 DOHC, Princeton, MN, May 16, 2013, 06:02

Is this a tensioner pulley or just part of the water pump and can I just replace pulley or do I need a pump? Can a bad surpentine belt cause the noise. The more RPMS. the louder and faster it gets.How long will pump last if it is bearings going out in pump?

    sounds like the water pump bearing is going out. water pump may need replacing

    THANKS GREGS AUTO, I WAS THINKING THAT,, JUST NEEDED SECOND OPINION SO NOW I CAN GET BUSY AND DO IT. Its got 260,000 miles on what I know is the original pump and pully.Still runs strong though :AGAIN THANKS KINDLY FOR ALL YOUR HELP WITH SEVERAL OF MY POSTS:: RYEDOC. PRINCETON MN. One more question, If replacing pump should I replace serpintine belt @ same time?

    If u think u will have to do it soon.also thermostat and also use dealer parts only on the water pump and thermostat

    the bearing on your water pump is bad. something on the pulley system is going bad try to make sure its the water pump and replace.parts of water pump
