My car started making this pinging sound like tapping crystal about two months ago. It seems to come from the front of the van area. Does it while I'm driving-not braking or anything-just driving. Aamco transmission put it on that machine that you use when check engine light comes on and they checked all my belts. They said they cannot see anything wrong. I dontr want to be stranded somewhere with a ruined car. Can anyone please help me? Is this a cause for concern?

2001 Honda Odyssey Question: pinging sound
Answer #1Auto Stop Limited from Auto Stop Limited, Inc, September 21, 2010, 08:50Technician
Does it do it at idle?
If you press the gas while in park with your foot on the brake does it do it?
Does it ping while going up a hill or accelerating maybe be bad gas or low octane.
Let me now about the first two if the gas is not the problem.

Sorry it took so long to get back-I couldnt figure out how to find this part and I have been working alot. I get the lowest price gas at regular gas station. Ive been told the most expensive isnt necessary and Ive always bought gas that way. It just recently started pinging and its starting to ping more frequently with just regular driving. Just flat driving-not in park with feet on gas and brake-not going up hill. It just pings alot with regular city driving. Sometimes it sounds like something under the hood is loose and is going to fall out. But aamco transmission cant find anything. It has to be something though because it is new noises in the past few months. I'm a single mom and I also drive menatally challanged people to social events at work and I just cant get stranded with them and I cant afford a new car either. I just got the transmission replaced 3/4 year ago and I'm still paying on that. Can you please help me with possible problems and solutions or where I can go that wont charge an arm and a leg to find out and wont come up with a fictisous problem to make an extra $$$ ?

Have someone check the cat converter in the exhaust to make sure that is not making the noise or possible a shield from around the pipes.

Thank-you so much! I'll do that.
