car wouldn't start; determined cause to nbe security malfunction, ie. passlock system.
Replaced ignition switch and cylinder. Car still won't start, but security light no longer comes on.
Does car have to be towed to dealership to have the computer programmed or can this be done at home?

There is a 30minute relearn procedure which you can try at home. Here it is: Crank the engine and release the key to the "run" position, the "security" light should be flashing. Leave the key in the "run" position, after about 10 minutes the "security" light should stop flashing, I will go off or stay on steady. When this happens turn the key off, wait 15 seconds, try and start the engine again, release the key to the "run" position. The "security" light should again be flashing. Again wait ten minutes for the light to complete its cycle. Key off again for 15 seconds. Crank the engine for the third time, let the light flash again for 10 minutes. Key off again for 15 seconds. This time when you crank the engine it should start, the security light will stay on for a short time and the go off. I know this may sound a bit complicated but you will just be doing the same thing three times - Crank the engine, let the light flash, key off, crank the engine again. I hope this helps!

my alero has the same problem, when your car doesnt start and the security light is blinking... turn your key to the acc position and wait exactly 10 mins... after 10 mins the light will stop blinking and your car will start, i have looked up solutions... and you can cut the passlock wire, but it seems kinda shady
