with the motor running I pulled the window up into place.
would this be the regulator or the motor failing?

TechnicianAs a general rule, if you can hear the motor running, then all you need is a regulator. It's also a good statistical bet. Here at the shop we probably replace a dozen regulator for every one window motor that fails.
