The lock on the passenger side power sliding door is stuck and will not unlock. I think the power lock mechanism is not allowing it to be unlocked manually or automatically. How do I remove the door panel to correct this problem.

It will take some special care and patience to remove the inner door panel from the sliding door of your 2004 Pontiac Montana. The most difficult chore will be to remove the inside handle, there is a "c" clip which holds the handle on to the lock assembly. There is a special tool available to remove the retainer. It is also possible to remove the retainer using a long thin screw driver and a small hook, this is where the patience will come in. With the handle off you will then need to release the retainers which are around the inside edge of the panel. Again, there are special plastic prying tools for this job. If you are careful you may be able to release the retainers by sliding a putty knife behind the panel next to the retainer and gently prying the panel out from the door. On some models the window trim comes down over the top of the panel and it to will need to be removed, it is held in place by the same type of retainers found around the edge of the door panel. This is all made much more difficult by the fact that the door will not open!

Did you ever find out what was causing the door lock to be stuck. I am having the same problem. I removed the door panel and it started working again. 2 days after putting the panel back on it is stuck again. Not sure what the problem is. Any one have any ideas?

I haven't worked on it yet. Since I will be working on it outdoors I am waiting for a warm sunshiny day to do it. I will post up what the problem is as soon as the job is done.

I am having the exact same issue on a 2006 Saturn Relay. It acts as if the locking mechanism is froze. I was able to pull part of the door panel off, and noticed there is either cabling or electrical running to it. I have had elecrical problems with this vehicle numerous times in the past. Taking it back to the dealer...again.
