2003 Nissan Xterra Question: overheating

Could be a clogged radiator, bad water pump, bad head gasket etc. You need to have a shop pressure test the system properly www.repairpal.com/directory

I just had the same problem on my 2003 xterra (3.3L engine). The problem was the fan/clutch assembly. If it fails, you wont notice till you are stopped for a long period (with no air flow thru the radiator), and having the A/C on will exacerbate it.
I had the fan clutch replaced, and also had my a/c system checked and recharged.
As for the engine light (I assume "check engine"), when you get the fan clutch checked out, have a diagnostic run to assure nothing else is wrong with the engine

I just had the same problem, replaced the belts, water pump and radiator, it was the second radiator within a year.
