I want to know what to do if a dealership or independent car repair place wants to over charge for their services that are not consistent with repairpal.com. Is there an organization that they can be reported to? What is your opinion on this? Also, is there a list of vendors that follow repairpal.com prices? please advise....Thank you

everyones prices vary according to location, parts mark ups and labor rates. there is no standard that shop go by except labor guides provided to us by companies such as all data and mitchel.
our prices on the site are prices according to areas that shops are charginf. i am in the phila, pa area and we are much higher than most areas.
it is to your advantage to shop around several places before you commit to allowing someone to work on your car. once you authorize the repair, you are on the hook for that repair unless they add on more money without your authorization.
you can appeal to the BBB if you feel that you were ripped off. They act as a mediator between you and the shop but the shop is not required to participate if they dont want to.
the other option is small claims court but you need to load you guns and make sure you are correct in your claim.
let me know if i can answer anymore of your questions.

Thank you very much. I appreciate the information. I actually did call the dealership and asked him if he heard of repairpal.com and asked him to compare his prices. He looked puzzled at first and then looked up the site. I told him that if he could not give me a price that was comparable to this website, then i would go somewhere else. He actually agreed. I think he did not want to look bad. I actually have used this website for a few years now in the state of California. I am very familiar with it and have turned many people on to it. I love this website! thank you!

    Hello,
Repairpal provides a range of what a shop will charge for a repair, and most shops will fall within this range. At times a shop may fall out of the range but it's normally for a good reason.
Having a RepairPrice Estimate helps to start the conversation about why a shop is charging what they are charging. It may be that they're using different parts or including additional parts, charging diagnosis time or some other action that necessitates a higher price. Make sure your comparing apples to apples.
As for shops that honor Repairpal estimates, you're in luck. We've just started a program called "RepairPrice Guarantee", and select shops around the country are participating in this program. See this shop for an example, click on the RepairPrice Guarantee Logo for more information: http://repairpal.com/leesburg-toyota
We're here to help you find the highest quality repair shops/Dealerships no matter where you live!
    Thank you for using Repairpal.

Thank you also for your quick response and information. Again, I have used this website for a few years now and have told everyone, especially women, about it. I am finding that most places are willing to work with you in fear of looking bad. I am also finding that many mechanics have not heard of this site, which makes the customer look like they are on top of their game. Thank you very much for this site. It is truly a benefit to all!
