Question: over heat light

Last mo my light came on saying i was overheated i pulled over and let it cool off, it started up and that monday i took it to a local guy he couldnt find anything wrong.Today i was driving home in 80 degree heat going about 75 and the light came on again so i pulled over let it cool off and the light has not come back on anyone got any suggestions ? Thank you

    The cooling system thermostat may be sticking (it can stick intermittently. perhaps the radiator is restricted and under prolonged load the engine may overheat, maybe the cooling fan switch is failing, it's hard to tell without being able to drive the car ans do some tests first hand.

    when the guy i took it to drove it to see if it would overheat on him he said the fan was working, when i opened the hood i looked on the overflow box and there was a little bit of clear liquid that was kind of oily around it. can it just keep getting hot then not all the time, wish it had a temp gauge i just know bmw dealer will gouge me just to find out what it is.

    you really need this problem checked now, not later. BMW's
    are bad about overheating and causing serious damage if you ignore it. there are some great BMW specialty shops
    so there is no reason to ever visit a dealer.

    Thank you for all your help. I have it at the shop right now, problem is i live in a really small town but i have found a shop that we trust. Again thank you...
