OBDII scan says output speed sensor malfunction.REplaced both input and output and was advised by 20 plus year mechanic after problem continued with speedometer jumping and taking off in 2nd gear to replace TCM. Problem stayed same. Dealer said tranny problem but went to reputable tranny shop for second opinion and there diagnostic computer shows there may be something back feeding output speed sensor and they said could be bad ground somewhere but that my tranny is fine. Van only has 97000 just bought for 4000 and cant afford to play guessing game or pay dealer for fix. Im pretty well experienced mechanic but stumped HELP PLEASE

2001 Chrysler Town & Country Question: Output speed sensor code
Answer #1mastertech6371 June 13, 2011, 22:41Master
first of all, the input and output speed sensor does not operate the speedometer. there is a sensor on the rs axle housing by the inner joint. that is the sensor for the speedo. check the sensor and also check the drive and driven gears for operation. it is held in by a 10 mm bolt and you can remove the bullet.
if it is in 2nd gear, it is in limp mode. did you have the new tcm flashed?? it has to be in order for it to work.
i agree with the wiring issues. chrysler has many issues under the battery box with harness falling apart.
as far as a shop, stick to a trans shop. they are your best bet from ability and pricing.
