Question: oil light came on and then car died. started up again but died when put in gear

oil light came on and then car died. Waited 15 minutes, it started up again but died when put it in gear. Tried to start it again, nothing. It would turn over, just not start. This is the first time anything like this has happened. It does leak oil so I have to check the oil frequently. I have checked it in about 3 weeks though.

    Start with replacing oil sending unit (oil pressure switch). Hopefully that simple but start there. If computer recognizes no or too little oil pressure should have safety device to cut power to fuel pump.

    Do you know about how much it will cost to have it fixed if that is the problem?

    Well part only like $9 bucks at Autozone. They also sell the special socket for removal about $10. You can simply do yourself. Ask them for printout on how to do youself. Part usually right near oil filter or oil pan. Simply unplug, unscrew sensor and put in new one- it's a simple job!
