Smelled the engine at first. Once I actually spotted smoke after parking on an incline. Took it into European Automotive here in Atlanta. Gaskets (valve cover gasket) were just old and thus leaking oil onto other parts of the engine which in turn caused the smell and smoke. They entire bill came to around $2,400 but included getting new front brakes ($500) a radiator hose ($200) and some other little stuff. Even subtracting that stuff out, it was over $1K to repair.

I have a BMW X3. I got an oil change. Shortly after, a month or two later. I started to smell something burning. I took it into the dealer since I had a warranty, and they told me I had a leak. They in turn sent it to the BMW dealer.

Wife complained of "buring smell' while driving. I found oil leaking from valve cover gasket and dripping onto exhaust. I replaced gasket, problem solved.

lots of smoke was coming from the hood and I was concerned so the same problem here reported about the gasket cover needed replacing. My mechanic told me that if it wasn't resolved that I may end up with an engine fire. That did not sound good.
Get it taken care of everyone.Flag ThisLike0 -

Oil coming from some location that drips on the pipes and burns off leaving a smell coming from the engine compartment. Need to verify leak source, was told by a local mechanic that he believes it is a valve cover gasket.
