Noise in Steering Shaft on 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500

I have a clunk noise in my upper intermediate steering shaft. What is it and how much does it cost to fix?

This is directly from the common problems page for your vehicle: The steering may develop a clunk type noise from the upper intermediate steering shaft. "Our technicians tell us that you should check with you local GM dealer to find out what the latest repair is for this condition"

Has anyone encountered this clunk in the upper steering shaft? And how much did it approximately cost to fix?
